Has anybody seen...

Clouded vision

A couple of things missing here this morning:

1. My blogroll. Hope it's coming back. Lots of good friends and thoughts to challenge your deepest suppositions, some great photography and artwork to make you leap and swirl lingering in that line up. How will I gather you all in once you've drifted into the blogosphere?

2. The post I worked on for an hour last night about my shopping trip to the mall in search of something sublime. Looks like the words have refused to cohere together in the orderly paragraphs, the strings of thought I sat down to create. Instead they broke apart like ill-formed planets and scattered their dust everywhere.

Oh well, sometimes things are just lost. Can I put up a poster? Offer a reward?

Words at large. Some dressed up in colorful party hats. Others suspected of crimes against the language. Known to behave erratically when cornered.

*Yay! Looks like my blogroll has been mysteriously returned with all of my happy links unharmed. If only all lost articles, fugitive thoughts, scattered selves could be reclaimed so easily...

I have a few fugitive paragraphs myself. Thoughts dressed in brilliant tropes (or at least, they seemed brilliant before they vanished), scattered and in hiding, and though I tried to lure them back with promises of fame and adventures in the imaginations of others, where they could avail themselves of a vast wardrobe, I couldn't get them to show themselves again, so I do have sympathy for those paragraphs that have absconded with your insights....

I spied nouns this morning in the company of some colourful adjectives. Aware of your loss I queried their provenance. The ringleader spoke confidentially in my ear, "You ain't seen me, right!"

What a relief that your absent blogroll turned up safe and sound.

maria: words: I always knew they couldn't be trusted, but I can't seem to live without them.

p.v. Those are the ones!

r: you know me; been avoiding homework all my life. How else do you think I ended up waitressing all those years?

I just reveled in your descriptions in this post! What a wondeful world, with fugitive nouns and verbs--I'm seeing something out of Schoolhouse Rock--Wild West, tumble weeds, branding irons, and pronouns run amok! I'm glad that you were able to corral your blogroll, at least.

Love this. Wry and humourous with great flights of fancy. I think my words are very formal - I'd like them to put on colourful party hats occasionally.

I find words to be very furtive and sneaky, especially as I've gotten older. One or two perfect ones pop into view only to hide from me when I most need them. If you ever find your errant adjectives, I hope you'll ask them where mine have gone.

Hi Patry - what a chord you struck with your last post! It is funny, as someone commented, how many Portlanders spoke up for our city! We do love it. Do you have any ideas now, after reading everyone's comments?

And you had asked about my book. I'm not sure what month it is coming out, maybe May 07? Is your book an "adult" title or YA? Anything about it that you've posted? I saw reference to another novel you'd written.

Irina: If Flaubert thought he had trouble with blank paper, he should try the computer. Not only is it frequently blank, but one press of the delete key or program malfunction and zap! There goes a day's work.

Cate: Oh, I love Schoolhouse Rock! Thanks for the comparison.

mary: there's nothing wrong with elegant attire when it comes to words. Sometimes I'd like to go formal more often.

r.d.: And it's not just words! I also find my thoughts aren't always where I left them.

laini t: You all certainly made Portland look attractive. I definitely want to plan a visit within the year...

And thanks for asking about my book!
It is an adult "literary suspense" novel. What about yours??

floots: Maybe you could write a poem about where all the lost and missing thoughts go...(I'd try, but I seem to be out of poetry lately.)

I see you wrote about your mall trip after all. Good.
It's a total bummer when one thing after another seem to go wrong...

Very often missing thoughts and words, Later, much later, have I found on the backs of envelopes, in between the leaves of a current book, stuffed into coat pockets waiting to be re discovered. Are they fugutive, refugee or just displaced? And sometimes I wonder did I actually write this and what prompted this thought.

I have often wished for a piece of technology that connects to my thoughts and can transcribe them while I'm doing other things, any offers?
